Founded in the early 1800s when John Harding purchased a single log cabin and a mere 250 acres of land, it now sits in the sophisticated and wealthy city of Belle Meade. The original estate quickly grew to amass more than 5,400 acres and included a Greek Revival mansion, home to a Thoroughgood breeding farm, where the Belle Meade Plantation now sits. The plantation is open for tours and consists of a museum, winery, and restaurant. In addition to the rich history, residents enjoy many shopping and dining options nearby at the Belle Meade Plaza and neighboring cities.
 
The residential areas are full of grand, luxurious homes in a mix of styles, including contemporary, traditional, and Cape Cod on sprawling lots. Well-manicured lawns and meticulous landscaping showcase pride-of-ownership. The Belle Meade Shopping Plaza is home to a major grocery store, Kroger, and several smaller shops and retail options. In the heart of the Belle Meade Galleria shopping center sits the Belle Meade Shops, a resident favorite antique shop with an eclectic market of over 25 different antique dealers with various offerings. Residents and visitors enjoy shopping at Epergne for all their gift-giving needs. The Belle Meade Plantation also offers the Shop at Belle Meade, where residents love to stop for seasonal and locally made gifts. There’s also a wine shop and a shop specifically for culinary arts on site. Nearby is The Mall at Green Hills, which has several high-end options like Coach and Brighton Collectibles, as well as The Nashville West Shopping Center. 
 
Dining options are plentiful in town and nearby. Sperry’s Steakhouse, a classic steakhouse with a laid-back feeling, offers a quaint atmosphere and scratch-made cooking. Bistro 360 has a seasonally inspired menu of refined dishes like beef bourguignon and pan-seared red snapper. Roze Pony Restaurant is a favorite for its quaint vibe and excellent service, and with menu options that range from breakfast to dinner, it’s always a good time to stop by. Stop at the Belle Meade Plantation for dinner at their restaurant, The Belle Meade Meat and Three, or for dessert at the ice cream and fudge shop, Coop ‘N Scoop.
 

Things to Do

Residents will find plenty to do at the Plantation with the tours or wine and food options. Percy Warner Golf Course is another resident favorite where you can bike, hike, ride equestrian trails, take your children to the park or your pets to the dog park, picnic, and more. With over 3,100 acres, there is plenty of space and amenities to enjoy. Residents can join the Belle Meade Country Club and enjoy amenities from golf and tennis to fitness and swimming, or make use of the clubhouse.
